This clan began with Şevki Cumadi--Cumadi = uncle in Laz language. Mother says they used to visit his household in Arhavi, but not after 1938 when her own family was uprooted from Giresun. (She does not know how the name Hacminaşi came about.) Şevki Cumadi and his 1st wife had 7 children, 2 of them boys. In 1934, when Turkish law required an official last name, the older boy, Hilmi, adopted the last name Celayir, whereas the younger one, Mehmet, chose Doğan. (The girls continued with the names of their husbands.) Hilmi's Celayir branch continues with many offsprings. (REFER to the TREE link on the left.) As far as Doğan, there is a direct link to our family: Mehmet Doğan married my father's sister Naciye and they had 4 children, our cousins, the youngest a boy named Erol (birth 1938). Erol later married his cousin Nurten Celayir, the older daughter of Hilmi with wife Ayşe. So, on the male side, the Doğan name continues now with Erol and his 2 sons: Mehmet Seren (BD Jan. 5, 1968) and Serkan (BD Mar. 12, 1975). Erol worked in Germany until his retirement. As of Dec. 2009, we have no info on Mehmet; however, Serkan has married a German girl and is employed in that country. |
